The Chairman’s Report

The Striders was formed in April 2008 and the club competed its first official race in August 2008. The Club has developed significantly over this 19 month period in both its membership base and its competitive status.
We have attracted members of varying ability ranges and this has proved to of worked very well as there is a great bonding and friendship within the club.

The Striders was primarily involved with Cross Country and Road races in its first season in 2008, but in its second season in 2009, we decided to have a go on the Track and this proved very popular indeed with many of our Athletes recording some very fast times.

Since the Club’s first competitive race (August 2008), The Club has won 24 County Medals which includes individual and Team, of which 7 are Gold Medals and this is something that makes me very proud of indeed.

The first person to run as a CLC Striders was Darren Milne in April 2008. The most Capped Male Strider is Will Ferguson with 29 Races under his belt, and most capped Female is Rachel Vines with 30 Races.

The Club’s Female Team are Currently leading the Gloucestershire Cross Country League, and the Men’s Team are lying in a very respectable 6th place with 3 more Race’s to go in the series. The next fixture is on Saturday 21st November 2009 at Black bridge, Gloucester. Next Cross Country Season 2010/2011, I am considering entering the Striders Men’s Team in the BCCL, and the Women’s Team in the Midlands Cross Country League. These Leagues I feel with enhance the Clubs Status in the Midlands Region, and will also offer the chance for the more competitive Athletes to run against a higher standard of opposition. We will also Aim to enter Teams in the National 6 Stage Women’s Relays, and 12 Stage Men’s relays held at Sutton Park, Birmingham in March 2010, and will also for the second year enter the Midlands 4 Stage Women’s Relays and 6 Stage Men’s Relays also at Sutton Park, Birmingham which are held in September.

The Club will continue to compete in Track Events next Season, and I will continue to try and encourage more of you to have a go on the Track as it’s a lot of fun.

Finally I would like to thank all those people who have stepped down from their respective positions. Darren Milne for his work as Treasurer and for assisting and supporting me in forming CLC Striders, I thank Lisa Boyd for her work as Female Captain, Will Ferguson who is not here today for his work as Male Captain.

Those currently in positions I thank Dave Smeath Male Captain, Rachel Vines Female Captain, Chris Slade Social Secretary, Nick O’Neil Assistant Social Secretary and Coach, Clive Hodges for all his work and support as Club Secretary, Louise Allsop for producing the Club newsletters, Phil Jowett for his hard work and dedication in maintaining a great Club Web site, Chris White Club President for his continued support, Tom Boyd for taking Wednesdays Coaching Sessions.

I would finally like to wish Chris Hale (AKA GPS), good luck in his new role as Men’s Vice Captain, Liza Barry in her role as Female vice Captain, Mike Jones in his new role as Club Treasurer.

That’s all I have to Say tonight apart from thanks again for coming along to CLC Striders first AGM.

Brendan Ward (Founding Chairman)
